On a sunny Sunday morning Photoresk visited the Royal Greenhouses of Laeken. Open only for three weeks, once a year, one needs to be careful not to miss it. We lined up after 9 am to make sure to get in before the place gets too crowded. Surprisingly many people had managed to leave their beds early on Sunday, we realized. It was also a good time to take pictures before the sun got too bright, as it truly was one of the rare warm and beautiful days this spring in Belgium.
The event was an excellent opportunity to see the wonderful architecture of Alphonse Balat, the mentor of Victor Horta, and the greenhouses with various flower arrangements were impressive. There was very little freedom to wander around the park area, however, which was slightly disappointing. Yet we managed to capture some really nice photos.
After the two hour tour in the greenhouses, we gathered together at the park on the other side of the Royal area, and shared a nice picnic together. Some of us had a lovely sunburn in the evening to remind us of the gorgeous day.
