Everyone knows Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, the story set in 19th-century London around Christmas time. A story in which we are introduced to people who are struggling in their daily lives but still look forward to the conviviality of Christmas, and in which, above all, we get to know the miserly Scrooge, a man who doesn’t seem to care about the holidays and the people around him. The ghosts of Christmas past, present and future eventually manage to transform him into a much more pleasant person.

Dickens’ story breathes history, but also has many timeless elements. Everyone is bound to recognise something in it. Would you enjoy turning this classic into a photo series? Then you are most welcome to join!

What’s the idea?

In the coming period, you can work at your own pace on a series of 3-5 photos showcasing A Christmas Carol in any way you like. This can be in the form of portraits, situations, objects, buildings, places and ambiance images. Your series may radiate history or be a modern adaptation, it can be minimalist, detailed or maybe even spooky. There can be a chronological storyline in it, but it can also be more or less stand-alone pictures.

On Thursday 11 December, we can then admire each other’s photo series and hear more about your experiences while putting together your series. Christmas decorations in the online meeting room will be taken care of, feel free to make your own backdrop as festive as you like!
