Evenings’ Theme will be Colour blocking
What’s that?
Colour blocking is a fashion and design technique where bold, solid blocks of contrasting or complementary colours are combined in a single outfit or composition — with clear, distinct boundaries between each colour rather than gradients or patterns.
It originated in the art world, particularly inspired by the work of painters like Piet Mondrian in the early 20th century, and became a major fashion trend in the 1960s. It has cycled in and out of popularity ever since.
In fashion, it typically means wearing two or more strongly contrasting solid colours together — for example, a cobalt blue top with bright orange trousers. The key is that each colour occupies its own defined area, creating a graphic, almost geometric effect.
The principle also applies in interior design, graphic design, and branding, where large areas of flat, bold colour are used to create visual impact and structure.
