Meetup is a great tool for organising and conducting local meetups, but it is not sufficient for all purposes of Photoresk.
Some examples:
– Meetup focuses on local groups which are wonderful for this purpose, but not sufficient for our global network.
– We may need to share information and photos based on and limited to attendance of events; this is not supported by meetup.
– Meetup is filtering and scanning messages from organizers and between members. We think this is not acceptable.
– Even organizers can’t see e-mails and contact information of their meetup members. This is an unacceptable single-source-of-failure risk. What would happen if meetup goes out-of-business?
– Finally, we have BIGGER IDEAS and GOALS for Photoresk, and we can better respond to our group members' needs through our own website.
Of course, we will use meetup also in future to organise Photoresk events.
